Day 1: On the Road

Vacation day 1 (6/27) found us on the road all day long. After staying up late packing, we were up at 5:30 and on the road before 6:30. Unfortunately, we had to drop off a Wii game at blockbuster. Since that's right next to Starbucks, it was necessary to make a stop there, too. We were on the highway at 7AM. The boys hardly slept at all. To say they were excited to be on the way would be an understatement. Jeremy's constant questioning about how many days until we left for Minnesota became, "How long until we get to our Minnesota log cabin?" When my response was X number of hours, he invariably asked, "Which is longer, hours or minutes?" (Anyone have any tips on getting him to remember which is which?)

Our food stops for the day consisted of McDonalds for breakfast, Culvers for lunch, and McDonalds for dinner, all eaten either in the car or at an outdoor picnic table because of Josey. I do have to say, CULVERS ROCKS. Mom and the boys and I discovered it last year after a long day of driving, and I'll stop there any chance I get! Stopping for eats is not usually how we operate, at least not for every meal. Last week was all about vacation bible school for me and the boys, so there was no time to plan for and buy food for the car. I'll make it a priority next year.

We arrived at the cabin at 10:15 PM local time. Considering our many food stops, emergency potty stops, and a small shopping trip in Duluth, we did pretty well! The boys were way over the top by then. We loved the sign and balloons strung across the driveway welcoming us.

Zachary put himself to bed not long after we arrived. This should have been a warning sign, but I didn't think anything of it. At 2 AM, I woke up to Zachary vomiting all over his bed. This is a particularly bad thing, because we have no washer and dryer at the cabin. At 5 AM, Jeremy had a nosebleed and came into our bed. It wasn't the most restful night or the best way to start a vacation.
